The Dance Contest Lesson: Drama & Dance
Objective: students identify commonalities between drama and dance.
Who doesn’t like to dance? At this age, students still like to move and make up their own dances to music. If there is a dance teacher or dance artist in your school, ask her to assist with this lesson and teach it as a joint effort. Notice how the lesson incorporates the planning, practicing, and performing processes (part of the 2nd grade objectives). Notice the focus on the use of the body as a tool in dance. If this is a difficult lesson for students without experience in dance, you may choose to skip it. This lesson is part of our recommended sequence in the Second Grade Curriculum.
